Travel Prescriptions

Travel-related prescriptions are not covered by OHIP and are only provided in the context of a complete medical and travel itinerary consultation.

Common prescriptions include:

  • DIARRHEA PROPHYLAXIS AND TREATMENT - E coli is one of the most common causes of traveler's diarrhea! Prescriptions may be provided following consultation with one of our travel nurse.

  • MALARIA - The Anti malarial agent prescribed will be based on your personal medical history, the travel destination, as well as the length of travel. Prescriptions may be provided following consultation with one of our travel nurse.

Travel Immunizations

Travel immunizations are the routine, recommended, and required vaccines obtained prior to traveling. These help protect against the contraction of various diseases prevalent internationally. Recommendations will be made by one of our travel nurses following a comprehensive consultation appointment.

  1. ROUTINE VACCINES are for both adults and children and are mandated by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Many adult travelers are behind on the completion routine immunization series and boosters. These can be administered by our team along with any missed routine vaccines.

  2. RECOMMENDED VACCINES are those that offer optimal protection for specific travel destinations. Recommendations are personalized by our Travel Clinic Team. As certain immunizing agents require multiple doses for complete and long-lasting immunity, we recommend beginning the process early.

  3. REQUIRED VACCINES are those that certain countries require travelers to have prior to entering. Our Travel Clinic Team is equipped with the knowledge and expertise to guide you through your destination-specific requirements.

Travel consultations are an opportunity for you to allow our team to review your health history, your travel itinerary, and your immunization history to start the conversation about how to travel safely and healthily. 

What to expect during your travel consultation:

  • Complete the form below

  • Once the form has been submitted, it will be received by one of the members of our team

  • Your file will be prioritized according to the order in which it has been received

  • You will receive a phone call from one of our travel nurses to complete an assessment. They will provide education, recommend vaccinations, advise and prescribe travel prescriptions, and schedule any required follow-up appointments
